Report back Ashihara 2008 Summer Gasshuku 24-25 May Belgium
The camp was held at the very beautiful place “De Lork” in Kemmelberg, Belgium at the French border. The accommodation (www.delork.be) was very good with excellent meals.
Special thanks to Sensei Dominique for doing lots of organisational work and for arranging the venue. OSU!!
The camp was open to all styles and organisation and participants came from different groups: American Kenpo, Muay Thai, Tai-Jitsu and Ashihara Karate. Over 50 enthusiastic participants trained for two days in various Ashihara Karate facets such as: Sabaki, Self Protection, Close Combat tactics and Kata Jissen Sono Ichi in standard and sparring form. On Saturday afternoon sparring sessions were held. After dinner on Saturday evening participants could socialise at the bar. With the exception of Sunday morning, all training that weekend were outside. Because of too rainy weather, the Sunday morning session was in the hall.
Our special guest, Kaicho Hoosain Narker, the International Director of Ashihara Karate, could unfortunately not attend. He had a very good reason for this as during the same weekend as the camp, Kaicho was elected as an additional member of the South African Governing All Styles karate organisation. We offer our congratulations to Kaicho from all the camp participants and from all world-wide members of the Ashihara Karate International organisation.
Special mention must be given to the oldest participant of the camp: Michel Verschave, 64 years old from Belgium. He showed tremendous spirit with a never surrender mindset. He is an example to everyone. OSU Michel, thanks!! You did a extremely good job!!
Then, some special news from the camp: Sensei Dominique van de Kerckhove and Sensei Steven Swaenepoel both from Belgium decided to join the Ashihara Karate International organisation and to promote Ashihara Karate International in Belgium. I am very proud to have these two fine teachers as members of our organisation. Kaicho Hoosain Narker and Ashihara Holland will give you all the support needed.
I would like to thank Sensei Dominique, Sensei Steven, Sempai Niels, Sempai Piet, Sempai Sait, Sempai Dennis, Sensei Franco, Sensei Henk, Karin and all other participants of the gasshuku for being there! Osu, you were all great.
Last but not least I would like to thank our sponsors:
I hope to see you all again next year.
